During the Korean War (ca 1950), Dr. MacHovec was called to active duty from college to serve with the U.S. Marines.  To better understand the enemy he might face he began a study of Buddhism and developed a lifelong interest in Asian thought.  More a system of personal development, he used the concepts in treating the mentally ill.

Buddha, Tao, Zen: Mystic triad describes the original teachings of Buddha that became Theravada or Hinayana Buddhism, “the first turning of the Dharma wheel,” the Taoism from China that blended with Buddhism to enrich Zen Buddhism and became part of Mahayana Buddhism “the second turning of the Dharma wheel.” www.lulu.com
